Deep End were delighted to be involved with the Sennedd Health and Social Care Committee Inquiry into the future of General Practice.
Some of team were involved with inquiry with their 'day jobs' but collectively as Deep End we were invited to give evidence detailing our challenges and asks.
Dr James, Professor Edwards, Dr Currie And Joanna Watts-Jane attended the Sennedd in person to present our evidence.
The findings of the committee were published on 27th March 2026.
Deep End Cymru very much welcomes this report, and we feel that the Committee listened carefully to our evidence, along with many others. We are looking forward to the next Welsh Government acting rapidly on the recommendations. Implementing these will go a long way to saving more lives and preventing more misery and poor health. We all know that the future of healthcare lies in prevention and more integrated care in communities. We welcome the emphasis on shifting resources into General Practice to enable us to provide the services that we know our patients really need, and to have enough capacity in our teams to finally ease the 8am scramble. We are very pleased that the Committee recommends looking at ways to incentivise GPs to work in more disadvantaged or underserved communities. Reducing inequalities in health outcomes is most effectively achieved through interventions in primary care rather than secondary care. So, the “shift left” is about saving lives and creating health, not just about taking pressure off hospitals.
